Spring is coming but not
just yet!
Right now, your furnace is working very hard to keep
you comfortable. Have you looked at your furnace lately? What about
all that stuff that got stacked in front of it over the the
holidays? Make sure it is clear all around the unit. Also, you
might take a broom and clear out the cobwebs near the unit for
safety. While you are there, look at other items in the room. Any
combustibles? Get them out of there too!
I'm hoping that you'll call me for a service call,
but if not, at least pull the filter our and check it for peace of
mind.
Remember that by replacing your old furnace, you can
start saving on your utility bills in just a short time, with the
bonus of more comfort and reliability.
Humidifiers:
Getting static shocks? They are more than just an
inconvenience. Would you believe that during the heating season,
our houses can become dryer than the Sahara Desert? Not only are
your nerves getting frayed, but so is your furniture and oh - did
you notice the cracks in the walls and wood floors? Are your wood
whairs getting loose? A good quality humidifier is more important
than you can possibly imagine.
CO and smoke
detectors:
This company highly recommends CO detectors and
smoke detectors on the market. We highly recommend units which plug
intto a regular wall plug, with a battery backup. One such option
is the Night Hawk Brand.
Whichever brand you use, these units are meant to be
installed in the living area of the dwelling. If installed in the
mechanical area of the dwelling, you may get false readings during
start up of a gas fired water heater etc. See manufactureers
instructions for further details.
Smoke detectors come in several varieties and price
ranges. We recommend both hard wired units and battery operated
units as a backup.
The most impertant decision, is to buy and install
the equipment - and soon!
So you want to repair or
maintain your own equipment - read on:
Many customers want to repair and maintain their own
equipment. I understand, as I work on my own car and many other
projects. If you are mechanically inclined, ther is no law I am
aware of, (exceptthe handling of refrigerants) that keeps you from
so on your own home where you live. There are however, many tests
that I do as part of my work, which you will probably not have the
tools for. Some of the problems i find on equipment, are improper
gas pressures, faulty electrical connections, air flow
restrictions, improper refrigerant charging, equipment not properly
sized to dwelling, venting problems, well the list goes on and I
think you get the idea. A professional checkup may save your life
and home from a major disaster.
Furnace
Filters:
Forced air furnaces curculate air throughout the
home, at the rate of up to 2000 cubic feet per minute, That
airflow, if restricted, will cause problems with the furnace and
air conditioner. Chang your filters when needed! For more
information on filters see Filters
Thermostats:
Thermostats have changed a lot in the last few
years. Well at least there are more options. We now have
programmable units and these may save money for you. It will also
increase your comfort when returning home on a hot afternoon!
Before you purchace a thermostat at your local discount store,
consider your expertise in installation. I have noticed, that the
model numbers and some features tend to be different then what I
buy at the supply houses. This area is a good example of you get
what you pay for! For more info, go to Thermostats
